Two-Compartment Bioreactors - Efficient Expression of Recombinant Proteins
NEW! CELLine adhere (AD) is specifically adapted to promote growth of anchoragedependent cells (e.g. HEK, BHK, CHO cells). The bioreactor contains a woven, polyethylene terephtalate (PET)
matrix in the cell compartment providing an ideal surface for cell attachment.
CELLine classic (CL) is ideal for laboratory scale applications using suspension cells or adherent cells in connection with microcarriers. The unit is optimised for cultivation of
hybridomas and many other cell types (e.g. CHO, NS0, SF cells).
Features:
Easy to operate
Due to its uncomplicated design working with the CELLine bioreactor is as simple as with any standard tissue culture flask. The system operates independently of any complicated control
technology and works without any pump systems or agitation devices. Easily and securely stackable the CELLine occupies the minimum of space in any standard CO 2 incubator.
Cost efficient
CELLine has been designed to bring considerable cost savings to cell cultivation. The bioreactor prevents you from the need of making high capital investments into expensive cell culture
instrumentation or handling large amounts of cell culture disposables in order to be able to obtain milligram amounts of a designated protein. High production yields obtained with CELLine
paired within the relatively small culture volume also contribute to cost and time savings in downstream processing steps. Further, CELLine allows to make significant savings in media
supplements expenses, when the addition of serum or other synthetic additives is limited to only the cell compartment.
Milligram production of protein
The high cell densities obtained within CELLine promote high expression levels of biomolecules. Product concentrations retained in the cell compartment of the bioreactor are in most cases
50 to 100 times above what is found in standard cell culture disposables. Average protein yields obtained from a single bioreactor range
between 40 to 100 milligrams every two weeks.
In vivo type cultivation
Successful cultivation of different cell types demands not only skilful handling, but also depends to a large extent on the chosen cultivation system. CELLine technology closely mimics
the physiological conditions within the body enabling production of drastically increased cell densities and more organotypic cell morphologies, sometimes even to the extent of
3-dimensional cell growth.
Consistent product quality
Working with classic cell culture techniques protein contamination resulting from serum or cell protein are often a significant part of the total protein fraction. Due to considerably
high protein concentrations obtained in CELLine the background of contaminating proteins is much less significant. Further, when using the CELLine to express monoclonal antibodies in
hybridomas, product concentrations obtained are in the same range as observed in the ascitic fluid of mice, but free of any contamination from mouse immunoglobulins.
Visibility
The transparent design of the CELLine classic Bioreactor enables visual conrol and micro-scopic observation of the growth process to be carried out.
Animal welfare
With CELLine, INTEGRA Biosciences provides a disposable bioreactor which is competitive in cost and performance to the production of monoclonal antibodies in the ascitic fluid of mice.
Over recent years, CELLine technology has been successfully adopted worldwide for the production of monoclonal antibodies and thereby has contributed diminishing the use of laboratory
mice.
In addition, working with CELLine, scientists also have a tool to optimise and significantly reduce the use of fetal bovine serum compared to cell cultivation in standard, homogeneous
cell culture disposables.
Specifications:
CELLine Two-Compartment Bioreactors are manufactured from optically clear virgin polysterene with a cell compartment base made of a molded silicone providing a 0.2 µm vent barrier.
The compartments are separated by a 10 kDa semi-permeable, cellulose acetate membrane which are individually pressure tested for integrity. The bioreactors are stackable stabilized by
specific interlocks. The units are shipped individual packed in easy to open, medical grade blister packaging, sterilized by gamma irradiation and are non pyrogenic.
