Shimadzu's TOGAS is a specially-modified GC-14 designed for the analysis of dissolved gases in mineral-oil based transformer insulating fluid. The presence of these gases is monitored to
prevent a dangerous build-up of gases in the transformer oil. The TOGAS conforms to ASTM method D3612-92, and is superior to conventional analysis methods because it requires no vacuum
extraction or mercury. The TOGAS analyzes H2, O2, N2, CH4, CO, CO2, C2 H6, C2H4, and C2H2 from a direct oil injection in only 25 minute.
The TOGAS operation is completely automated. The GC controls all valve functions, including "backflush" or removal of the oil. The system calibration is based on an actual oil standard,
but all that is required for daily calibration is the injection of a gas standard. This easy-to-use system hardly ever requires maintenance, and can handle large numbers of samples.
