Agarose IV is the highest strength agarose and is ideal for pulsed-field applications like gene mapping and chromosomal analysis. It
can also be used for resolving nucleic acids down to 200bp as well. The high gel strength provides a very manageable gel that will resist tearing when subjected to mechanical manipulation.
Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis of yeast chromosomal DNA on a 1% Agarose IV gel. Running conditions were 6V/cm, 70 sec. pulse, 24 hours, field angle = 97°log.
